Implant Dentistry Research & Education Foundation
The Implant Dentistry Research & Education Foundation (IDREF) provides continuing support for the advancement of science in dental implantology through the disbursement of research grants, education awards, and student achievement awards.
ICOI strives to foster high standards for research with our fundraising efforts through IDREF. These efforts contribute to research and education in implant dentistry around the globe and establish a landscape in which top implant dentistry professionals can contribute and collaborate in their field.
This foundation was established in 1993 with the aim of advancing the quality of methods and technology in implant dentistry. Since our founding, the foundation has made considerable progress and handed out many grants and awards to promising groups and individuals in implant dentistry.
The mission of IDREF is to encourage, support, and acknowledge innovation in the field of implant dentistry through our sponsorship of research and educational programs. In doing so, we foster an international landscape in which promising research can flourish and advance the science of oral implantology.
Through our members in ICOI, the foundation continues to serve thousands of dental implant patients. The advancements made possible through our society’s research grants, education awards, student awards, and consensus conferences continually raise the bar.
Our ongoing efforts continue to develop both the image and the actuality of oral implantology and implant dentistry, firmly establishing the field as a specialized area of our profession.
The funding that our supporters provide for our research grants, student achievemnt awards, and education programs is absolutely essential. Donations to IDREF are fully tax-deductible, and 100% of your donation will go directly to its proper allocation, as overhead at IDREF is fully absorbed by ICOI general funds.
Every year, many ICOI members, dental corporations, and grateful patients generously make and/or pledge contributions to IDREF to support our ongoing efforts. We applaud their donations and acknowledge them annually.
All grant proposals submitted to IDREF for extramural and intramural research funding are formally reviewed by the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB is composed of world-renowned and respected university researchers who have made significant contributions to the science and applied research of implant dentistry.
All formal grants go through blind primary and secondary critique processes, with copies of the reviews returned to the investigator. After the reviews are completed, the SAB presents the choices for grant funding to the IDREF Board. IDREF grant review procedures mirror those used by the National Institute of Health (NIH).
